Born at 2:40 p.m. on June 27, 2005 by C-section, weighing 5 1/2 pounds, five weeks early due to Vasa Previa.

We had an incredible journey bringing our little guy Kai into the world.  Here are a few pics that we've taken along the way.

Michelle had a very serious condition called Vasa Previa.  Vasa Previa occurs in approximately 1 out of 5,000 births and the condition requires that the baby be delivered early as going to full term is far too dangerous.  If diagnosed, the baby can be scheduled to be delivered by C-section early.  Awareness and diagnosis varies from region to region, so there is currently an International movement to promote awareness of this condition.  For more information, please visit the International Vasa Previa Foundation website or the Vasa Previa Foundation of Utah

We will update this page regularly, so check back soon!

Just before the big event.....

Day One.....Five Weeks early....What am I doing here? Who turned on the lights? Turn up the Oxygen!

I liked sleeping on my belly to start....it's okay because they watch me carefully in the Special Care Nursery.

Day Two:  I must be important- they've got everything monitored!  It sure is nice and warm in here:)

Day Three......I'm starting to feel a lot better....except for that nurse that keeps poking my foot to take blood for my tests.... quit touching my feet!

They finally let mom feed me- I like it A LOT!

Dad sure has big hands... he's the master burper!

Day Eight..... I graduated from my incubator and made it into a big boy bed...with my friends Rover and Winnie.

Kai Jackson Schuster, Day 10.  Hello World!

The only thing remaining for me to master is feeding entirely from Mom....I'm getting stronger every day and I hope to be home by mid-July:)

We made it!

Finally....after 8 weeks of hospitalization for Michelle and an additional 2 1/2 weeks for Kai, we're on our way home!  Karma is enjoying the copilot seat immensely!

A few days later, Kai goes on his first field trip to Anderson Lake

I love my hooded towels....and isn't this sand bucket cool?

Auntie Barb made this very comfy blanket for me.

Having fun in my bucket!

Hello!
